Fan Reboot Project

Main humans:

• Presley Osman, the reincarnation of the Ancient Egyptian Prince Rahotep. She's thirteen years old and caught off-balance by this whole reincarnation thing, but she tries really hard to take care of and protect the mummies in her "charge"... which is kind of the opposite of what they want as her Guardians, really.
• Amanda Osman, Presley's mom and a museum curator. As a single working mother she's busy a lot, but she can tell something's up with Presley... She just wants Presley to come to her to talk about it instead of snooping. She'll be kind of relieved when it turns out that Presley's hiding four more guardians, even if they are undead. She's 37 years old.

Main heroes, the Prince's Guardians:

• Jackal, the former royal lead hunter. His name back in Ancient Egypt was Abn-Awaa; everyone's speech sort of automatically translates his name this way. Blessed of Ra, his mother before him was blessed of Anubis, hence his name. The oldest of the four Guardians by a bit, and their leader. Was 33 years old when he died.
• Meryamon, aka Mery, the former royal tutor of combat. Blessed of Khnum, he's the biggest and youngest of the four. Just gonna cut out the food humor real quick, thanks. Was 29 years old when he died.
• Rath, the former royal tutor of science/magic (which were, of course, the same thing). Blessed of Wadjet, this character starts out with he/him pronouns and at a certain point realizes she's a trans woman, shortly after beginning to go by Ratha (an alternate spelling/pronunciation of the same name). Was 32 years old when she died.
• Nefer, the former best royal charioteer. Her name back in Ancient Egypt was either Neferubaste or Neferet (undecided just yet); when she was disguised as a man in order to be a charioteer, she went by the name of Sneferu. Blessed of Bast, she's a very nonbinary character, comfortable with any pronouns really, and helps Ratha figure herself out. Was 30 years old when she died.

Main villains, out to get the reincarnated Prince and/or the Guardians:

• Scarab, the former advisor of the Pharaoh and leader of the little group of villains. His name back in Ancient Egypt was Kheper, and again, everyone's speech sort of automatically translates his name. Blessed of Khepri and immensely magically powerful. Was 55 years old when he died. His modern human identity is Harris Stone.
• Ankhesenheka, aka Ankh, a spirit created by Scarab, using magic calling upon Heka specifically. They used to be Scarab's snake staff, but is now usually in the form of either an actual (golden) snake or a human. Their human form looks about in their early to mid forties; people often use she/her pronouns for them when they're in that form, which they don't care about.
• Enchantra, aka Chantra, a former student of Rath who is frustrated by being thrown over for the Prince. Her name back in Ancient Egypt was Eshe. Blessed of Apep, she is incredibly magically powerful and perhaps a little bit in love with Nefer. Went through the Western Gate while still alive when she was about 30.
• Sayyid, a sphinx who can take the form of a human man. A transmasc character, in life he was named Ibtisam and was a follower of Shezmu; he was blessed by the god after his death. Appears to be about in his early thirties; undecided as of yet when and how he died, but he might have died before even Tutankhara was born.
• Johan Wright, aka Omen, a modern pagan "follower of Set." Unfortunately, this is just his inaccurate idea of Set, and at one point in the series it's clear Set does not like him (which might rattle him a bit). Very depressed and cynical. Still, he's useful to Scarab in some way. Somewhere between 27-29 years old.

Other characters:

• Ammit, the Devourer of the Dead. She's basically Scarab's dog from early on.
• Anubis, the god of funerary rites, protector of graves, and guide to the underworld. An occasional antagonist, this is solely because he is very rulesy and the mummies are definitely not supposed to still be alive.
• Araq, another former royal hunter and Jackal's younger brother. Resents both that Jackal was always the golden child and (in his eyes) appreciated by everyone more than Araq was, and that Jackal always seemed to put the Pharaoh first. After his death, his name was changed to "the scorpion" (al-Aqrab). Blessed of Serket, he is a bad parent, but he is not a part of the main villain group. Was 32 when he died, but he died a couple years after Jackal.
• Cyan Lu, Presley's best friend. Doesn't know about the mummies or what's going on with Presley for a pretty long while, though. Nonbinary. 13 years old.
• Elaine Setter, Presley's new friend. A "junior reporter" who sniffs out the mummy story but decides against publishing it when Presley explains the situation. They're not as close at first because they haven't known each other long, but for some time she's the only one Presley can really talk to about her new circumstances. 13 years old.
• Francis Hepplewhite, Amanda's boss. I'll be real, I didn't realize he had a name. I'm just putting it here so I don't forget. Awful boss. In his 40s-50s somewhere.
• Kahti, a mummified cat! She's still here. Can't change size, though; she's not Cringer.
• Kinya, Araq's son and Jackal's nephew. Not a part of the main villain group, but on his father's side until he turns against him due to Araq's treatment of him and the Guardians' kindness. Was 14-15 when he died.
• Milton Huxley, Presley's science teacher. He's still here too, of course. Somewhere in his late 50s-early 60s.
• Paul Osman, Presley's absent father. Lives in Memphis, works as an archeologist but does a bunch of shady shit, is a bad father. In his mid-30s.
• Prince Rahotep, the young prince who Scarab attempted to sacrifice for eternal life. Reincarnated into Presley. A bit more of a brat due to being raised as royalty. Was 13 when he died, like, actually on his birthday, which sucked.
• Sekhmet, a warrior goddess, goddess of medicine, and a solar deity. She can be very violent. Basically like her appearance in the actual show; somehow they really nailed her and her alone.
• Set, a god of deserts, storms, disorder, violence, and foreigners, and the lord of the Red Land. I still need to figure him out but I definitely want to use him at least once or twice.
• Tutankhara, the Pharaoh and Rahotep's father. Honestly arguably the greatest villain of the series, he had the Guardians ritually sacrificed and mummified after they failed to save his son, and had the nearly-immortal Scarab entombed alive. Grieving only excuses so fucking much, man.

NOTES:
• At first it's only Presley in the know, and then Elaine, but her mom and Cyan eventually also find out.
• Presley, Cyan, Elaine, and Kinya eventually form a little friend group.
• This isn't the sort of story with a big villain in the end, though some characters are more redeemable than others. Scarab actually isn't close to the worst one. Finding middle grounds and non-combat solutions is what will win in the end.
• Jackal is too in mourning still for Amanda/Jackal to be a thing, let's be real.
• Ratha/Scarab and Chantra/Nefer will be a thing, though, because I say so.
• ...Possibly also Huxley/Sayyid because why not.

(Basic design inspiration for Ankh's human form, Sayyid's human form, and Omen.
However, Sayyid's hair is in tight braids and his eyes don't normally glow like that. Unless he wants them to.

(I haven't been able to make anything better than the above for Omen, but...
Alternate versions of Ankh and Sayyid's human forms!)
